Dietician Tip of the Day

Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Picture of olive oil)

The American Heart Association recommends replacing bad (saturated)fats with good fats  (unsaturated) as part of a healthy eating pattern. Olive Oil is an unsaturated fat, it is great to toss with your favorite pasta, salad or vegetables. It has antioxidants (they protect you from substances which can cause disease) among many other benefits.  The best choice, in my opinion, is Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). I love it with Balsamic Vinegar as a salad dressing. Try to buy, First Cold Pressed and USDA Organic. Store EVOO in a cool dry place, away from light to preserve it and away from heat. We all need healthy fats daily. However, remember it has 14gms of total fat per 1 tablespoon. Therefore, enjoy in moderation.
